Common questions
Should I register a private limited company or an LLP?
A private limited company suits businesses that intend to raise outside investment or issue ESOPs, because shares are easy to transfer and investors expect that structure. An LLP suits professional services and businesses that will stay closely held, with lighter compliance. Tax treatment differs too, so we usually take this decision together with your accountant.
How long does trademark registration take in India?
If there is no objection or opposition, registration typically takes around a year to eighteen months from filing. You can begin using the TM mark immediately on filing, and the application date becomes your priority date, which is why we recommend filing before launch rather than after.
Do I need a written agreement with my co-founder?
Yes, and before money or customers arrive. A founders' agreement covers equity split, vesting, roles, decision-making, what happens if someone leaves, and ownership of intellectual property. The absence of one is the single most common cause of startup disputes we see.
